Working with various community organizations, John Thurston has been commissioned to use his Photographic artwork using Vinyl Media to wrap objects from Transportation Trolleys to Utility Boxes.
14 imagesCommissioned by the Uptown Community Parking District in San Diego, John Thurston used his imagery to Vinyl wrap an Old Town Trolley with images that reflected the UCPD's marketing campaign of "Get On, Get Off, for Free". The Trolley services the diverse community of Hillcrest and it's Farmer's Market, and he chose images to reflect its diversity: The Business Man, The Jogger, The Chef, The Mom and her Toddler, The Hipster, The Drag Queen, The Leather Daddy, The Cowgirl, and the very Special Needs Girl Lily, who the Trolley was named after.
24 images24 Specific City of San Diego Traffic Signal Utility Boxes were chosen to be beautified by the Hillcrest Business Association with Photographic Vinyl Wrap art commissioned by Photographer John Thurston. This vinyl wrap was a much more durable, and easier to maintain solution than the previously decades old paintings on the Utility Boxes. Former City Council President and Councilperson Todd Gloria has praised this project for it's positive impact on the community. This Public Art Project has also has been well received by the neighborhood and businesses in Hillcrest.
